The vacuum treatment is used for hydrogen and nitrogen removal, decarburization, deoxidation and desulphurization. Intensive gas stirring in fully inert conditions provides a good removal of non-metallic inclusions from molten steel.
STEB vacuum plants treat heats from 10 to 300 tons. The vacuum system is designed with dry mechanical multi-stage vacuum pumps arranged in several parallel skids / modules, normally rated 25.000 Nm³/h each.
An oxygen lance installed in the vacuum station makes it possible to perform VOD (Vacuum Oxygen Degassing) treatments, principally used for stainless steels and ultra-low carbon steels.
